EPO and breast cancer: Kurzrock (2001) has discussed the role of cytokine dysregulation in cancer-related fatigue and other conditions that are commonly associated with fatigue, such as anemia, cachexia, fever, infection and depression. Specifically, Kurzrock (2001) discussed erythropoietin, interleukin, tumour necrosis factor and interferon. Bower et al (2003) compared 20 breast cancer survivors with enduring fatigue to 19 nonfatigued breast cancer survivors and their findings suggest that persistent fatigue may be associated with a T-cell mediated inflammatory process.
