Recently, however, overexpression of VEGF-C had been shown to stimulate lymphangiogenesis in xenotransplanted human melanomas (Skobe et al, 2001a), and in the chick chorioallantoic membrane, and this occurs through activation of VEGF receptor 3 (flt-4) in lymphatic endothelial cells (Papoutsi et al, 2000).
