Gulec et al (1998) described three patients with HCC and found all to have positive octreotide scintigraphy. Different methods of assessing distant metastases in HCC have also been described, such as lung deposits demonstrated with 131I labelled anti-carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) monoclonal antibody (Abdel-Nabi et al, 1985) and the incidental finding of HCC in a neck mass on an FDG-PET during staging for malignant melanoma (Wiesner et al, 1999). This evidence concerns the gene CEACAM5 and hepatocellular carcinoma.
