As demonstrated in our permeability assay, Ang-1 levels in CM from Ang-1-transfected cells abrogated the increase of plasma leakage (dye leakage) of dermal microvasculature caused by tumour cell–derived growth factors (KM12L4 cells express relatively high amounts of VEGF (Ellis et al, 1996)), suggesting that Ang-1 is an important mediator of vascular stabilisation and permeability and may override VEGF-mediated vessel leakage.
